Bragg Curve

The energy of an ion decreases when passing through a medium. The specific energy loss increases according to the Bethe-Bloch formula. The plot of the specific energy loss (which is related to the ionisation) along the track of a charged particle is called the Bragg curve. A typical Bragg curve for the passage of a high energy carbon ion through tissue is shown in the diagram.
